Nancy Wynne-Jones
Nancy Wynne-Jones was born in Wales and educated at home. Her love of art developed at an early age and she was taught first by Ruth Gervis (1894-1988), a children’s book illustrator and went on to study at Chelsea School of Art in London and the Royal Academy of Music. Following her studies she spent time at St Ives in Cornwall, an artist colony which bred ideas and shared enthusiasm for the development of art, where she studied under the Cornish landscape artist Peter Lanyon (1918-1964). Wynne- Jones became an established member of this community and provided studio space at Trevaylor, a large country house she had purchased which also held grounds near Penzance, and in so doing, created a hub for artists and writers. She developed her ‘richly textured, semi-abstract’ style conveying the landscapes of Cornwall and later Ireland. In 1972 she moved to Ireland with her Irish artist husband, Conor Fallon (1939-2007) where they settled, first in Cork and finally in Wicklow.
Nancy Wynne-Jones exhibited regularly in Ireland. Among her achievements, she was elected an honorary member of the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) in 1994 and became a member of Aosdána in 1996.
