Padraig MacMiadhachain 1929 - 2017 TEMPLE OF THE SUN, MACHU PICCHU Oil on canvas, 36" x 36" (91.5 x 91.5cm), signed inscribed and dated 1978 verso Born in Downpatrick, Co Down, MacMiadhachain trained in Belfast College of Art and the National College of Art Dublin before beginning his exhibition career in 1951. From the late 1950's William Scott and the artists of the St. Ives School in Cornwall were two important influences. The Isle of Purbeck, Dorset was his home for a large part of his life. He exhibited to acclaim in London, Madrid, America and Canada. He painted widely in Ireland, Cuba, Mexico, South America, Morocco, USA, Western and Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and Central Asia. To celebrate his 70th birthday, in 1999, he had a retrospective exhibition at The Molesworth Gallery in Dublin, Ireland. In May 2001 he had another very successful solo exhibition at the Molesworth.

At any point you can leave a maximum bid, representing the highest price you are prepared to pay for a particular lot. Bidding only advances when there is competition from a rival bidder. In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.
If a bid is received in the final three minutes of a timed auction the clock resets and it extends the bidding time by a further three minutes, in order to give other bidders an opportunity to respond.
All maximum bids are confidential and not disclosed. We will endeavor to purchase the lot for you for the least price. Bids are subject to buyer’s premium of 25% (incl vat), with no additional charges.
