Lot 39 - ROW OF POTS - YELLOW FLOWERS by Basil Blackshaw Lot 39 Basil Blackshaw ROW OF POTS - YELLOW FLOWERS

ROW OF POTS - YELLOW FLOWERS
Oil on canvas, 12" x 13 3/4" (30.5 x 35cm), signed.

Basil Blackshaw and his partner Helen Faloon were among the most generous human beings I knew. They literally gave thousands of pounds away annually to the 'Poor.' Each year they paid a visit to Muckamore Abbey a residential hospital for people with disturbed minds. They visited the hospital to lend support to the staff and residents where an annual art exhibition was mounted based on works by the residents.

Basil explained to me that as he was walking away from the hall where the exhibition was taking place he spotted a little row of pots with stick flowers in them. That one glimpse was enough. To spend any more time looking at the pots would have killed the 'sensation' he experienced. That one glimpse was all that was needed to prompt 'Row of Pots - Yellow Flowers.' Blackshaw had an urge to paint 'Row of Pots-Yellow Flowers' and when that urge hit hit him it took possession of him. He hated Venetian Blinds and cats. Nevertheless, he had to paint both when the spirit moved him.

What is so special about 'Row of Pots - Yellow Flowers' is the simplicity of the work. That simplicity does not just reflect the innocence of the original creator of the image in the hospital but it brings Blackshaw closer the world of the child who creates images with a spontaneity and an originality.

In order to allow rival bidders the opportunity to respond to a late bid the following extensions will apply:
IF A BID IS RECEIVED WITHIN THE FINAL 45 SECONDS OF THE COUNTDOWN THE CLOCK WILL RESET TO 60 SECONDS.

At any point you can leave a maximum bid, representing the highest price you are prepared to pay for a particular lot. Bidding only advances when there is competition from a rival bidder. In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.

All maximum bids are confidential and not disclosed. The system will endeavor to purchase the lot for you for the least price. Bids are subject to buyer’s premium of 25% (incl vat), with no additional charges.

In the event of a tied bid, the preference will be given to the bid submitted first. The second bidder will receive immediate notification of being outbid.
