Nathaniel Hone's views of the Malahide pastures are perhaps his most quintessential and admired. He executed several versions, other examples are held in the National Gallery of Ireland, such as Pastures at Malahide. These works date from the mid-1890s and show Hone at his most confident, the paintings employing bold brushwork and masterly capturing the fleeting effects of light.
