Le Brocquy's preoccupation with the human head began in 1964 when he became fascinated by the ancient Celtic tradition of the head as a magic box which contains the spirit. In 1979 he began painting an important series of images of the artist Francis Bacon, a close friend since the 1940s, for an exhibition at the Galerie Jeanne Bucher in Paris. He understood that our perception of someone comes from multiple encounters, from a myriad of aspects, and his images needed to embody this sense of flux.

In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.
