Lot 22 - FRUIT by Louis le Brocquy Lot 22 Louis le Brocquy FRUIT
Estimate: €25,000 - €35,000
Louis le Brocquy HRHA, 1916-2012
FRUIT, 1992
Oil on canvas, 20" x 25" (50.7 x 63.5cm), signed; signed and dated '92 verso. Opus no. 601.

Provenance: Taylor Gallery, Dublin (label verso).

Le Brocquy painted still-life throughout his life but is particularly known for his studies of fruit which began in the '50s. He turned to this subject more frequently after his move to Carros on the Cote D'Azur where lusciously ripe fruit were plentiful. They were undoubtedly as visually tempting to paint as they were to eat!

As is typical in his other work, le Brocquy deconstructs his original subject and reconstitutes it in a way that aims to capture some essential aspect of it. In Fruit, the artist uses the medium of paint to celebrate their seductive, sensuous appeal—moist, glistening, plump and abundant.  Pigment is applied in translucent glazes, with colour intensifying at the composition's core and with sunlight bouncing off the surface. The artist offers his lemons, apples, plums and grapes to us as precious jewels.

IF A BID IS RECEIVED WITHIN THE FINAL 45 SECONDS OF THE COUNTDOWN THE CLOCK WILL RESET TO 60 SECONDS.

At any point you can leave a maximum bid, representing the highest price you are prepared to pay for a particular lot. Bidding only advances when there is competition from a rival bidder. In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.

All maximum bids are confidential and not disclosed. The system will endeavor to purchase the lot for you for the least price. Bids are subject to buyer’s premium of 25% (incl vat), with no additional charges.

In the event of a tied bid, the preference will be given to the bid submitted first. The second bidder will receive immediate notification of being outbid.
