Exhibited: Camille Souter Retrospective 1999, 2001 and her final one in 2019 at the Customs House Gallery in Westport.
Camille Souter was never afraid to address difficult subjects. Whether it was sketching carcasses in an abattoir, she always challenged the viewer with her own perspective. Footage of the Iraq invasion of Kuwait and subsequent Gulf War would have appeared regularly in the news and on television and this work 'Desert Shield - Gulf War' portrays tanks advancing through the desert. The colours used evoke an overall feeling of heat, whether from the hot desert sand, clear sky, or the burning flames.
