A PAIR OF ROSEWOOD POLTRONA MOLECA 'MISCHIEVOUS' ARMCHAIRS Lot 54 A PAIR OF ROSEWOOD POLTRONA MOLECA 'MISCHIEVOUS' ARMCHAIRS
Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000
A PAIR OF ROSEWOOD POLTRONA MOLECA 'MISCHIEVOUS' ARMCHAIRS, BY SERGIO RODRIGUEZ (1927-2014), BRAZIL, 1970's, with leather straps and cushions. 80cm high.

Known in Brazil as the "Poltrona Moleca", this luxurious lounge chair is constructed of a wooden peg and leather strap system connecting a beautiful rosewood frame. Rich, leather poufs rest atop leather straps creating an informal, sling-style chair.

Recognized internationally as one of Brazil's most influential modern designers, Rodrigues's most famous project is the Mole armchair (1957), which won first prize at the 1961 International Furniture Competition in Italy. Produced by ISA in Italy, the chair was sold internationally under the name Sheriff.

Rodrigues's work champions the Brazilian identity, often drawing inspiration from traditional forms and utilizing native materials, such as Peroba, Jacaranda, and Imbuia woods.
