JFK and the Chair with the X Factor

Posted on Oct 16, 2012

The Kennedy versus Nixon debate of 1960 was the first ever televised live debate for the US Presidency. Specially flown in from Denmark for the event were a set of chairs designed by Hans Wegner, which Interior Magazine had called "the most beautiful chair in the world".

Following their appearance at the debate it subsequently became known simply as ‘The Chair’.

Included in our Interiors Auction we have a set of six of these chairs, made around 1949 by Danish furniture maker Johannes Hansen. A design classic, with the 'X' factor.
