Colour

Posted on Sep 27, 2013

Colour is one of the hardest elements to judge in a painting and in our auction next Tuesday we have works that do not lack in this regard.  Basil Rakoczi, William Crozier and Kenneth Webb are three artists in the sale that specifically come to mind.

Basil Rakoczi found his way to Dublin after the outbreak of World War II and helped to found ‘The White Stag Group’. These were a group of artists opposed to the war and included Kenneth Hall. Lot 109 ‘The Sun Horse’ is a typically vibrant work depicting figures in a surrealist setting and the estimate of €6,000-9,000 should bring keen interest.

Two oils by William Crozier, originally acquired from the Taylor Gallery, show the artist at his best. Each measuring 16” x 20”, they would hang very well as a pair.

Also in the sale are a group of large oils by Kenneth Webb. Typically colourful, they have come from a Corporate collection.
