The Christmas festivities are over and everyone is back to the grindstone at deVere’s Art Auctions after a short interlude since the highly successful Christmas Sale. As everyone returns to work and looks forward to some events to break the monotonous winter blues we decided what better way to celebrate the coming of spring and the blossoming of a new year of art than an insightful, ‘admission free’ discussion on contemporary art of the moment and the emerging study of 20th Century furniture design! deVere’s has organised two highly esteemed members of the public art and design sphere to conduct a talk at the Clyde Court Hotel, Ballsbridge at 12 noon on Sunday 17th February. deVeres would thus, like to invite all that are interested to a relaxing yet thought provoking discussion with critic and writer Gemma Tipton and architect and lecturer on Furniture design, Barry Sheehan.
Gemma will begin at 12 noon and make a presentation on contemporary art entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly- what’s really going on with Contemporary Irish Art”. The talk will focus on buying and selling in the art market. Gemma is an independent writer and critic of contemporary art and culture. She writes in the Irish Times regularly as well as Artforum.com and has become a regular commentator on what’s happening in the contemporary art world. She contributes to a diverse range of publications encircling the art and architecture fields, including Apollo, Art and Architecture Journal, Artists Newsletter, CIRCA, Fuse, Irish Architect, Irish Museums Journal and the Wall Street Journal. Her respected criticism in the art world is evidenced though her presence on numerous judging panels including the Museum of the Year Awards, the Davy Portrait Awards, and for the AIB Art Prize. Additionally, Gemma was Guest Artistic Director for the Kinsale Arts Festival in 2012.
