Auction fever

Posted on Mar 08, 2011

Had a great auction at the weekend. A huge crowd viewed the sale at The D4 and this was reflected in the results. We had 250 registered bidders for the auction, resulting in 80% of lots sold in a hammer total of €100,000.

The reaction was very positive. I’d said beforehand that if you attended the viewing and saw nothing you liked then it was unlikely you’d ever bid on anything again, as there were paintings which catered to every budget and style. The highest price paid was €3,200, the lowest €10!

Best of luck to Sotheby’s, who hold the reception tonight for their Irish Auction on March 29th. They have a really nice sale, I think of all the paintings in it I’d take the big Swanzy, thankyou.

Spring is in the air

March has arrived which means John is in Australia at his son’s wedding. The art world goes on though and we have an auction this Sunday at the D4 Berkeley. If you haven’t viewed the catalogue yet you should really check it out on www.deveresart.com. 326 lots will be offered at very conservative estimates, many without any reserves at all. Viewing starts on Saturday at 10am, hope to see you there.

Our auction on March 30th is closing for entries this week. Included in this sale is a very strong sculpture section and we received the most exquisite Imogen Stuart yesterday. Call in to the office and view it if you are passing.
